- Loraine Romeo
Roe grew up in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn, New York. She rode horses at
Bergen Beach as a teenager.
- Moved up to
Ardonia, New York at 19 years old.
- She started
giving english lessons shortly after her move upstate.
- 1973-1986 Loraine
rode jumpers and showed the circuit very successfully with 10-12 students.
- The business
took off so she needed a larger facility.
- 1979 purchased
an 87 acre farm in Gardiner, New York.
- Loraine trained
and showed an Open Jumper named Atlas, who was eventually sold to the
Canadian Olympic Team.
- 1986 ONTRACK
THOROUGHBRED TRAINING CENTER was
started
- 1986 applied
for NYRA trainers license to train Thoroughbred race horses. Also licensed
in NJ and PA racetracks.
- 1987 won race
by 19 lengths at Saratoga with Valuable Lady.
- 1986-1999 held
a jockey school, Paul Toscano, Rodney Soodeen, Philip Teator, Andre
Sanchez, ect.
Philip Teator
in 1997 was awarded the ultimate Eclipes Award in his Apprentice year.
- 1989-2002 trained
2 year olds for racing 30-60 head.
- This led to
many other opportunities, lay-ups and breaking and training.
- Ontrack and
Loraine had many successful experiences with the Thoroughbred industry.
Both horse showing and Racing.
- It supported
the farm very well.
- With Loraine's
great reputation on the race track, she was given the chance to attain
horses that did not make it on the race track. These horses were retrained
by Loraine and given a new life in the show ring.
- Honorary member
of the NY Horse Rescue for the work done in taking off the race track
and giving them new careers.
- Loraine always
kept good contacts with the horse show world. She managed to attend
many horse shows throughout her racing career.
- After Renée
Romeo (Loraine's daughter) graduated from university, she came back
to ride Hunters and Jumpers with her mother.
- This was when
Ontrack shifted gears back to Thoroughbred Breeding and the show ring,
with a major focus on horse sales. Considering that Loraine has been
retraining Thoroughbreds for the show ring for many years, she choose
to make a big decision...
- December 2007
Ontrack was closed and was sold and she retired in FL. Ontrack has been
transformed into a fair weathered small business called Showboat Stables
L.L.C. in Naples FL. Showboat's sole purpose is to retrain the Thoroughbreds
for the show ring on a smaller scale.
- This is as close
as Loraine can get to retirement, she could not live with out horses
in her life.
- You can still
catch her in the show ring with new students and training new TB Hunter/jumper
prospects!
- Loraine's true
passion in life is training riders and horses to communicate to the
highest level!
